The RAI Council created this part-time role in January 1931, stipulating that the postholder should attend the Institute's General Meetings, Council Meetings and any committee or sub-committee meetings as appropriate. Cruso was invited to be the first postholder for six months at the outset, to work with Christopher Hawkes as Secretary. (English)
Cruso later asked that the resolution on the salary attached to this role be changed to state that £50 be given to the Assistant Secretary for personal expenses and £50 be given to the Secretary (Hawkes) for clerical expenses. The Council agreed to amend the resolution. (English)
